Chinoxx

Nweke Samuel Chinonso, popularly known by his stage name Chinoxx, is a Nigerian Afro R&B singer, songwriter, and performer from Awka South, Anambra State, Nigeria. Born into a Christian family of six children, Chinoxx is the fourth child. His upbringing in a conservative Christian home, situated in a predominantly Muslim neighborhood in Lafia, Nassarawa State, exposed him early to diverse philosophies, cultures, and ways of life — all of which would later shape his musical perspective.

He began his educational journey at Goodway Nursery and Primary School, and completed his secondary education at Government Secondary School, both in Lafia. He later obtained both his OND and HND in Estate Management from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State.

Growing up, Chinoxx’s love for music was undeniable. As a child, he enjoyed miming trending hip-hop and R&B songs and started freestyling at age 12. His creative freestyles, often inspired by his friends’ names and appearances, drew the admiration of his peers who would gather around to cheer him on, sometimes providing makeshift beats with their hands and feet.

However, his journey into music wasn’t always smooth. Coming from a strict Christian family, his parents were not supportive of his pursuit of secular music, viewing it as a distraction from his studies. At a point, Chinoxx almost gave up music entirely. But his passion could not be silenced for long. The turning point came when Cubana Chief Priest ventured into music, inspiring Chinoxx to reignite his musical dreams. Seeing someone of Chief Priest’s caliber embrace music gave him the courage to return to what he loved most.

Musically, Chinoxx describes his sound as Afro R&B, a blend that reflects his originality and cultural depth. He strives to maintain a distinctive identity in his music—so that when people hear his voice, they instantly know it’s Chinoxx. His major influences include Fela Kuti, Chief Osadebe, 2Baba, Don Jazzy, Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Flavour, and Cubana Chief Priest, among others.

Chinoxx’s songwriting is anchored on three principles: Message, Inspiration, and Connection. He believes that every song should carry a clear message, inspire its listeners, and resonate with the realities of life. This philosophy is reflected in his works, especially his lead single “Ojoro”, a thought-provoking track from his upcoming EP. The song mirrors his belief that life is complex and unpredictable — “the more you look, the less you see.”

To Chinoxx, African music is the future of global sound. He celebrates the rise of African artists and the diversity of sounds coming from the continent, particularly Afro-Highlife, Amapiano, Ogene, Hiphop, and Fuji, which strongly influence his style.

Over time, Chinoxx has evolved from a passionate young dreamer into a visionary artist and entrepreneur. His enthusiasm to make a lasting impact on the music industry has grown “dangerously,” as he puts it. To give back and empower others, he founded his own record label, Brainchild Music Group (BMG) — a platform dedicated to discovering and promoting fresh musical talents across Africa.

With his unique sound, inspiring vision, and deep-rooted passion, Chinoxx stands poised to be one of the defining voices of the new generation of African artists.
